Grape: Arinto Concept: Morgado de Oliveira was established in 1306 by D. Martim de Oliveira, Archbishop of Braga, from Évora. He planted vineyards here, built a winery and a press, legislated on the protection of Évora's vineyards and wines, and erected the Paço do Morgado de Oliveira, which is our home today. The lands of Morgado de Oliveira are blessed with water, with the Água da Prata aqueduct fed by the property's wells, purchased by D. João II from Morgado de Oliveira in the late 15th century. The vineyard existed here before the establishment of the Morgado in 1306. According to several authors, it is the oldest vineyard area in Évora on record. The two chronicles of D. João I bear witness to confrontations with the Castilians here and that soldiers had to hide in the vineyards.
