Grape Varieties: Arinto dos Açores Concept: On this island, vines have been planted in the cracks of volcanic rock, a few meters from the sea, for over 500 years. But even earlier, in 1465, came the Utras, a corruption of the name Joss Hurtere, a Fleming who was Captain Donatary of Pico and Fayal, instrumental in the development of wine and vineyards on these islands. We inherited the legacy of one of these vineyards, still in the Utras' lineage, a small plot in Criação Velha that borders the sea, in the "1os Jeirões," a location that receives maximum sun exposure and concentration.
